I'm stuck here at Home, on break, with no computer (which means my homework wont be getting finished) and not a whole lot to do.
Promise some posts when I return to New York!
Enjoy your week xo

Vagabond

Since moving to New York this photo sums up how my feet feel on a daily basis, worn out. All the walking is draining, but I still enjoy it so much. There is so much to see and so many people to watch. You can't help but find yourself enjoying the walk despite complete exhaustion.

Nicholas Kirkwood For Rodarte - Fall Winter 2010

Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, designed so cleverly in imitation of the sculpture of white wax candles lit at the beginning of the show. Inspired by the sisters' Mexican roots and the romantic, dreamy landscapes of Ciudad Juárez. The show ended with ethereal, almost virginal white dresses that leave you wondering, just what was on their mind when these were created. I really enjoyed Nicole Phelps description of the white dresses:
| "white dresses that alternately called to mind quinceañera parties, corpse brides, and, if you wanted to look at it through a really dark prism, the ghosts of the victims of Juárez's drug wars." |

Nary Manivong Fall Winter 2010 & Interview

Dark, Romantic, Captivating and well... (don't hate me for this) Fierce! I think that about sum's up Nary Manivong's Fall Winter 2010 collection. Everything from the makeup down to the shoes scream dark glamour. A beautiful mixture of leather, lace and beautiful feminine silhouettes. And I suddenly feel like I need a sheer head-wrap for my next job interview. View the full Fall Winter 2010 collection here.

Nary Manivong pictured with Tommy & Ally Hilfiger
1 week prior to his February 17th Presentation at the Audio Showroom, I dropped by the designers showroom to get a feel of his upcoming collection. I witnessed some very skilled dress making first-hand and was able to get his perspective on his first collaboration with Ally Hilfiger, who styled for the collection.

Nary was so careful & precise throughout this entire process.

Nova Style: Nary, tell me, what was your inspiration for this collection and how would you describe the colour pallet you've chosen.Nary Manivong: "My inspiration for this collection was 1940's romance and classics with a sort of 1980's edge. The colour pallet is really dark but romantic to give it that 1940's feel and there is something a little edgy and refreshing added to it to give it that 1980's feel."
Nova Style: How did you decide to collaborate with Ally Hilfiger?
Nary Manivong: "We met through a mutual friend at her dinner party and really hit it off. We have kept in touch ever since then. Ally mentioned she was a stylists' assistant so I asked her if she was interested in styling for my next collection and she said 'yes'."
Nova Style: Where do you find inspiration in the city?
Nary Manivong: "Everywhere. Museums, art stores, vintage shops, used book stores. I like to look at art history books especially. New York is evolving so there is always inspiration to find."
Nova Style: Okay now for something a little fun, what's your favourite coffee place in the city?
Nary Manivong: "Mud coffee! It's in the east village I really enjoy their Chai. It's relaxing after fashion week."
Nova Style: How about your favourite fast food?
Nary Manivong: "Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches also in the east village"
Nova Style: The fashion community was devastated recently, what are your thoughts on the recent loss of Alexander McQueen?
Nary Manivong: "It is sad... there will never be another like him who can put on a show like he can."

What could be better than all this you ask, well I got more than just a preview, I actually got to try on a piece from the collection before the presentation! Check It Out.

Band of Outsiders Fall Winter 2010

I arrived somewhat late, but still early to Milk for Band of Outsiders, thanks to the lovely Lee who graciously invited me along. The instant they raised the curtain, you knew it was going to be an amazing collection as everyone in the lobby caught a glimpse of a male model hanging from a large chandelier. Then came the music, Dark Side of The Moon (you should probably listen to this song for the remainder of this post), and I just about died. It was all so surreal strolling through the room surrounded by a sea of fantastic people and beautiful clothes. There was a moment where the song "Time" came on and Jason Schwartzman began singing the lyrics, quite unforgettable.

There were tons of fantastic pieces one of which was a patchwork rainbow fur vest; fantastic shoes with 1 inch spikes on the soles; and the most amazing sweatshirt dress which everyone should have in their closets.

Those amazing spike shoes
Kept running into this guy from my writing class, first the previous evening at the Tribeca Grand for 7 is 10, where he works as an event photographer for the hotel. Then he and a friend walked in behind us at Band of Outsiders, where his younger brother was modeling in the show. Coincidences and accidental meetings like that just make you stop in wonderment at just how small this world of ours really is.

Every girl really needs to own one of these dresses.
So not only is Band of Outsiders my favourite movie, it is also my new favourite for clothing as well. Make sure you check out the full collection here.
P.S. Make sure to wish my blog a Happy Birthday, it is now officially 2 years old!

Quick Little Update & Susan Woo Fall Winter 2010

Had a delicious meal after leaving the Tirbeca Grand last night with Raych, Camille, Tahgrid, Phillip, Liz, Rich & Anna. Nobody seemed to like my hashbrowns with hot sauce, ketchup and mapel syrup, which makes me sad.
Today I stopped by Susan Woo and got some really fantastic photos of her presentation and am about to go meet up with a friend from my classes, Lee, and go head Band of Outsiders together. Then later tonight it's back to Tribeca Grand for Chictopia10 Party. Hopefully I'll have time to update after this crazy week is finally over!

Alexander McQueen, March 17, 1969 – Feb. 11, 2010

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I was devastated when I read the news through Julia Frakes on Twitter. My heart goes out to Alexander's family and friends at this unbelievably tragic time. This is a great loss to the fashion community and I can only hope fans will look back fondly and remember him and his beautiful work.
