novaSTYLE: I noticed you have a very unique sense of style, where do you think that comes from?

Sophia: "You’re starting off with a toughie! I believe it comes from a combination of what I see that has left an impression on me, what I feel, and what I experience. I’m not exactly one who follows every trend either. I like to pick out the ones that feel natural or are consistent with my personality and extend upon them a bit. I guess the result is something relatively unique."

novaSTYLE: You also do a ton of DIY projects! Where do you draw inspiration from?

Sophia: "I’ve always found my favourite designers to be very inspiring. The last Givenchy Couture collection is still seared in my mind, but in general, I’m madly in love with all of Tisci’s collections. I like darkness and I like romance. I like feminine but also masculine forms. I feel that Tisci always gets that duality perfect. So, maybe I draw inspiration from contradictions in general. More specifically in terms of DIY projects, I like taking something that feels challenging and making it more every-day-wearable and accessible"

novaSTYLE: Have you ever thought about designing?

Sophia: "Definitely. However, what I currently study feels very different from the world of fashion and design. Designing is a dream. Hopefully one day it will be a bit more than that."

novaSTYLE: Who would you say influences your personal style the most?

Sophia: "I don’t think there’s a “who” involved, but it’s more a tie between the environment around me, art, architecture, music, emotion, the weather that day, my personality, pretty much anything that is perceptible. It may sound unnecessarily complex, and sometimes it is, because there are days when I wake up and just want to dress like a blank canvas devoid of outside influences and trends, so basics and practicality will be on my mind. "

novaSTYLE: And lastly, Classic Rock or Punk Rock?

Sophia: "Oh, another toughie. Neither? I will have to say post-punk all the way! I like my Joy Division, New Order, and The Smiths. "
