Bali Diary

File this one under ‘wanderlust’!

How can I even begin to describe Bali? It is the embodiment of peace, full of proud and welcoming residents who have managed to maintain their cultural integrity and traditions over centuries. Their picturesque traditions have survived centuries of change, Dutch colonialism, unification with Indonesia, and ongoing globalization. Beautiful and sometimes mysterious, it is an island filled with fragrant eye catching flora, all competing with one another to be the biggest, brightest and most intoxicating.

I’m not sure you could ever really describe it, I leave you with a few photographs from my month in Bali. And if you get the urge, just go and be your own judge.

Photographed by Jillian Hobbs in Bali, Indonesia from Saturday January 10 until Monday February 9, 2015.

Stars in W with little or no makeup

If you know me you know I detest makeup. You’re not selling dreams you’re selling delusions. That’s not to say I never wear makeup, it can be fun to enhance your eyes, or play with colour the same as you would with fashion. But if you’ve ever had your photograph taken for a magazine then you know the amount of makeup they slather on you. And the sad outcome of all that makeup and photoshopping are the women and men who attempt to achieve this false look of perfection.

W magazine’s ‘movie issue’ was a massive relief (I can’t believe I missed it the first time around). Juergen Teller photographed an assortment of A-list stars with little or no makeup and instead of looking like an UsWeekly special they all look simple, natural, beautiful.

Out of the ordinary wouldn’t you say? But what’s ordinary in popular culture intentionally makes you feel bad so you will buy what they’re advertising to feel better. Well I have news for you, you’re fucking beautiful. That’s right! You’re a rare gem in this world, because there is only one of you. So take a cue from this W editorial, forego the makeup and let your true outer (and inner) beauty shine! I bet you’ll feel like a star.

Amber Arbucci

And her Yamaha R6

Amber Arbucci is a former model, animal activist and all around adventurer who you’ve likely seen on the pages of GQ or in Victoria’s Secret Ads. If you’re lucky you’ve seen this gorgeous gal buzzing around Los Angeles on a Yamaha R6. Her other hobbies include shark diving and photographing wildlife which you can read all about in her interview with Ride Apart. Okay she’s a bit intense but it’s nice to see a model who’s anything but typical.
