Despite growing up in a 170 year old house with painted colour walls, I've always been drawn to all white, minimal interiors. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are things about my childhood home that I'll always take with me, like the intricate crown moldings, high ceilings with floor to celling windows. I love the combination of the white walls with wood floors and chrome appliances, a dream home. This apartment was for sale on this website. It's a shame that it is no longe on the market, some lucky person snatched it up quick.

Lavender Hot Chocolate

If you know me at all, then you know I have a slight obsession with hot chocolate. It's so bad that my friends actually tease me about it. The only thing, other than lavender, that could make hot chocolate more amazing is someone to snuggle up with while drinking it.

THE RECIPE

Since lavender is quite fragrant, adjust amount according to preference. For a creamier hot chocolate, a 1 to 1 ratio of dark to milk chocolate can be used. Makes 2 servings.

hot chocolate:

2 cups whole milk
3 ounces dark chocolate (70% cacao)
1 ounce milk chocolate
1/4 teaspoon lavender buds
whipped cream:

1/2 cup cold heavy whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract or seeds from 1/4 of a whole vanilla bean pod
1/2 tablespoon granulated white sugar
For whipped cream, place cold cream, vanilla, and sugar into a cold mixing bowl. Beat the mixture with a whisk or mixer until stiff peaks form. keep refrigerated until ready for use.

For hot chocolate, heat milk and lavender over medium heat, whisking occasionally until the milk begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let lavender steep for 5 minutes. Strain lavender and return milk to saucepan. Over medium heat, add chocolate and mix until chocolate is melted and incorporated. Whisk milk mixture for 10-20 seconds until frothy. Pour into mugs or bowls and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

Apartment hunting in Manhattan has got to be the WORST thing I've ever done. Nothing but constant stress.

Went to view an apartment in the west village and after waiting an extra 20 minutes after the scheduled time, my boyfriend and I threw in the towel. Just as we were walking away, a man walked by, a legend from an age of free thinking and endless creativity, Richie Havens. We sent the next 10 minutes had it not been so hot, I think a coffee would have been in order, but maybe next time.

My sincerest apologies for the lack of updates this month. I am in the midst of absolute chaos. I am wrapping things up at work for the summer, gearing up for my final semester at Parsons! Packing for my return to New York (ALL my processions). Beginning an apartment search in Manhattan, working on some side projects for friends and all the while attempting to maintain this blog. And I hope to bring you as much New York Fashion Week coverage as possible this season, which will also suffer a tad because of my insane class schedule. *PHEW*

Nothing was more of a let down for me this summer, than missing the Savage Beauty Exhibition. I was so excited for it I even did my final at Parsons based on the exhibit. I made the attempt to go twice, and after two hours in line, realized if I didn't leave soon I would miss class. So both attempts were failed ones, and I deeply regret it. At least Garance took these beautiful images so myself, and others who missed the show can admire what we missed.

Lemon Anise Slush Recipe

The heat is truly brutal this summer, but I've never been much of a summer person. I prefer crisp fall mornings and a warm cup of tea! I find that there really is nothing more refreshing than lemon on a hot day, that is, if you don't count water. I was so excited to find this recipe. It reminded me of Italian ice with a little touch of anise takes me back to family holidays, when my Nona would make her amazing pizzelles. The perfect nostalgic treat on a hot summer day. Heavenly.
